Privacy and terms

Short version: reading needs no account and we keep nothing about you beyond ordinary visit statistics. Writers give us a name and an email, and can have both removed.

If you only read

  • No sign-up, no newsletter wall, no advertising trackers.
  • Your choice of light or dark mode is remembered in your own browser.
  • If visit statistics are switched on, Google Analytics counts pages viewed and sets its own cookies. We see totals, never names.
  • The hosting company keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses, for security.
  • Pictures on story pages are loaded from the publisher that owns them, so that publisher's server sees the request.

If you make an account

  • We store the name you enter, your email address and a one-way hash of your password. The password itself is never stored.
  • One cookie keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. Signing out removes it.
  • A draft lives in your browser until you send it. After that we hold the piece and its review history.

If you write to us

Contact messages and booking requests are stored and emailed to the editors. They are used to deal with your message and nothing more.

What we do not do

We do not sell personal data, rent it, or swap it. To have your account, your pieces or your messages deleted, ask through the contact page from the email address concerned.

Terms for readers

  • Headlines, excerpts and pictures on the news desks belong to the publishers credited beside them. The full reports are theirs.
  • Nothing on this site is betting advice, investment advice or legal advice.
  • You must be an adult where you live to make an account.

Terms for writers

  • The copyright in what you write stays with you.
  • By sending a piece you allow us to publish it, edit it for length and clarity, and link to it.
  • You confirm that it is your own work and does not infringe anybody's rights.
  • We may decline a piece, or take one down later, for instance if it proves to be wrong or promotional.
