Fit-again Kartal beats top-50 opponent in Wuhan

Sonay Kartal says she has "thrown herself in the deep end" since returning from a six-month injury absence after beating Anhelina Kalinina to reach the Wuhan Open second round. The British number five, 24, reached the third round at the Beijing Open earlier this month in her first WTA tournament since suffering a stress fracture in her back. She followed that up by defeating Ukraine's Kalinina 7-5 6-3 in an hour and 31 minutes in Wuhan. World number 170 Kartal will face Swiss ninth seed Belinda Bencic next.
