Hazen, Todd Beamer will play after canceling varsity football seasons

Connected through a string of similar events, Hazen and Todd Beamer high schools will formally meet on the football field Friday. The schools announced within a week of each other the cancellation of their varsity programs’ 2026 season. Both cited attrition and injuries, Hazen adding academic suspensions as reasoning for ending its varsity schedule after four games. Beamer coach Rodney McCurry shifted to a “custom schedule” and Hazen wanting to hold a Senior Night for its players fit that plan. The teams will play at 7 p.m. Friday at Renton Memorial Stadium.
