Kai Rooney thumped on UEFA Youth League debut after Man United star's injury hell

Kai Rooney continued his injury recovery as Manchester United suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Youth League in Spain. The 16-year-old made his debut in the competition after a foot injury brought his previous season to an end in March. The injury also ruled Rooney out of the Under-18s FA Youth Cup final against local rivals Manchester City , which ended in a 2-1 defeat for United in May. It was not the first time the youngster had been sidelined by injury during the campaign.
