An anti-inflammatory substance is behind the late scratching of New Zealand-bred horse Asterix from today's Melbourne Cup.Trained by Sydney-based New Zealander Chris Waller - Asterix has been ruled out, meaning the great race is down to 23 runners.Racing Victoria stewards say Waller's confirmed the anti-inflammatory substance was applied to both of the horse's forelegs in its stable this morning. The governing body said any substance administered on raceday is considered a medication - therefore forcing them to make the scratching. The other NZ horse is "Shockletz", trained by Ciaron Maher and to be ridden by Harry Coffey.
