Mike Pettine ’s winter departure from the Vikings’ staff was classified as retirement . But the veteran staffer later said he was not sure if he would return to coaching. Months later, we have more clarity. Pettine is joining the Cowboys’ staff as a senior defensive assistant, the team announced Monday. This reunites Pettine with both Brian Schottenheimer and defensive coordinator Christian Parker . The well-traveled staffer joined Schottenheimer as a coordinator on Rex Ryan ’s Jets teams. Schottenheimer was in place as Jets OC from 2006-2011, while Pettine was the team’s DC from 2009-12.
