Alexander Zverev on the cusp of equalling Carlos Alcaraz’s Masters record after latest win

Alexander Zverev came through a difficult test against Alexander Bublik to confirm his place in the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters. Zverev, who has just been confirmed as the year-end world No 1, needed three sets to defeat Bublik in what was a very competitive match on the Masters tournament’s main court. The German needed two tie-breaks to topple Bublik, but he did not look entirely comfortably against the world No 18. Zverev took a fall in his opening round match against Wu Yibing and his ankle appeared to be troubling him again in his fourth round match.
