Ben Cherington’s 3 Worst Moves as Pirates General Manager

After looking at Ben Cherington’s three best moves with the Pirates on Monday, it’s now time to highlight three of his worst. Cherington is entering his eighth offseason as Pittsburgh’s general manager. After launching a full-scale rebuilding effort early in his tenure, the focus has shifted from building for the future to the present. The first few years of his tenure consisted of accumulating young talent and uninspiring free agent additions. There have been some good moves — as highlighted yesterday — and some regrettable decisions. Three moves in particular stand out as ones Cherington wishes he could have back.
