Value Scope Extra: Future Champions Festival actually lives up to its name

Newmarket’s Future Champions Festival has one of those rare titles that actually does live up to its name. There was a cracking finish to Saturday’s Dewhurst Stakes – usually the most significant juvenile contest of the year – with Darkness Falls holding off Desert Castle. Autumn Stakes winner Rock Montreal is another with 2000 Guineas aspirations but the star of the weekend, for me, was Musical Times. She stretched her unbeaten record despite finding trouble in the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile on Friday. The Godolphin filly is now 8-1 ante-post favourite for next year’s Oaks.
